Is dye sublimation printing good?
Is dye sublimation printing good: The advantages of fabric that give fabric printing an edge, which other printing methods such as UV, Latex, Solvent and Eco Solvent on vinyl or other synthetic materials cannot match, are as follows
- Sublimation fabric can be washed and ironed just like the clothes we wear
- When used where it is not exposed to sunlight, the colors last for many years
- Lightweight, seamless and easy to transport, saving shipping costs and storage space, since the fabric can be folded without damage. Wrinkles can be ironed out, and the ink does not crack from folding. Some fabrics release wrinkles on their own when used, without ironing, for even more convenience
- Sublimation fabric prints have no unpleasant odor and are non-toxic, so they can be used in offices. Polyester fabric does not pollute the environment and breaks down easily. It is widely accepted in developed countries such as Europe, America and Japan. Today the global trend is moving against PVC products, to the point that some countries ban materials containing PVC
- Dye sublimation fabric printing delivers vivid (saturated), deep colors that are bright and clear, not dull, for a beautiful, eye-catching result
- Fabric edges do not curl and the image stays smooth and taut, ideal for banner applications such as Roll Up, Hanging Banner and X-Stand
The disadvantages of sublimation fabric printing are as follows
- Not suitable for outdoor use because the fabric absorbs water, so it is not suitable for long-term outdoor applications, except for the fabric used to make beach flags, which can get wet
- Colors withstand sunlight for about 6 months
- Compared with indoor inkjet printing at the same resolution and viewed up close as when reading a book, fabric printing is less sharp than indoor inkjet materials. But when viewed from more than 3 meters away, the difference in sharpness is very small or almost none
What types of dye sublimation printing are there?
Today there are two dye sublimation printing systems in use: Direct Print and Paper Transfer. I will share information about both systems and compare their pros and cons
Let's start with Direct Print. Direct Print prints dye sublimation ink directly onto the fabric, then the fabric is heated at 190-200 degrees Celsius so the ink sublimates and permanently penetrates deep into the fibers, completing the production process
The Paper Transfer dye sublimation system prints dye sublimation ink in reverse onto transfer paper, then the paper is pressed onto the fabric at 190-200 degrees Celsius so the ink on the paper sublimates and permanently penetrates deep into the fibers in the same way
